The Brass Knob’s in a Top Ten Neighborhood

It’s not like we didn’t already know it, having been nestled in our gorgeous purple row house on Adams Morgan’s main drag for so many years. But it’s nice to know that the rest of America knows it too: Adams Morgan is among the nation’s Top Ten “Great Neighborhoods,” according to the American Planning Association.

The row houses on 18th Street could be like a bowl of rainbow sherbet. The Bras Knob (left) could be boysenberry, right?

The APA’s annual report, released last week, praised our neighborhood’s diverse population and eclectic character:

In addition to the colorful storefronts and iconic row houses, a number of community murals throughout the area enliven the walking experience and reflect the culture of Adams Morgan residents. The international shops, restaurants, annual festivals, weekly farmers markets, and nightlife draw visitors from all over the District and its suburbs, particularly on weekends. Residents and visitors have ample access to the neighborhood’s variety of parks, including Rock Creek Park, one of the District’s most treasured natural resources.

You can find just as much diversity within our own store—the finds range from antique door knobs and hardware to vintage lighting and architectural salvage, garden ornaments to stained glass. For a taste, you can see our frequent postings over on The Brass Knob’s Facebook Page.

But let’s go back to basking in the glow of this report, which also named nearby Pennsylvania Avenue as one of the nation’s Great Streets. The APA will surely come out with a fresh list of neighborhoods next year, but we’ll ALWAYS know how awesome we are!
